On Monday, August 21, 2017, our district will be in the path of a near total solar eclipse. We want our students to be able to learn about and experience the eclipse. Safety is our priority at Jewell Elementary! We will take all precautionary measures with both students and staff to make this experience safe and enjoyable. These measures are explained in detail in the permission slip which will be sent home with your child. We will have eclipse glasses available for students and will review all expectations for their use. We will create a schedule in which every child can use glasses to go outside with a teacher to experience the eclipse. Students will only be allowed to participate once they have heard all about eclipse safety and only when it is their group's turn to go outside. Students must also have a permission slip signed by a parent/guardian that is turned into their classroom teacher by the morning of the 21st. Students who do not have a signed permission slip will have an opportunity to participate in alternative activities about the eclipse and view televised coverage inside of the Jewell building.
