NOTICE OF TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS

AURORA POLICE DEPARTMENT

APD will be ticketing people for the following traffic violations:

  • U-turn violations where signs are posted.

  • Impeding traffic (when drivers stop in the street to let passengers out of the vehicle).

  • Parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

  • Parking where signs prohibit. Please be aware of all signs in and around the parking lot drive lane and bus lane.

  • Unlawful crossing of a roadway by a pedestrian. Since there are 3 crossing guards provided by the school, an individual could get a summons or similar violation for crossing anywhere other than a crosswalk. Fines for these violations can range anywhere from $1.00 to $999.00. Because this is a safety zone, a $100 fine is automatically added to the violation.

  • Trespassing - This charge is for the adults that park in the Condo complex on the Northwest corner of Sable Blvd and Jewell Ave. This is the complex directly across Sable to the West, from Jewell Elementary. There are signs posted that state, “No Trespassing Private Property.” This is a criminal charge and will stay on a person's record for life. The APD has been contacted numerous times by residents who have confronted trespassers on their property.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our students safe.

Sincerely,

The Aurora Police Department

Cyberbullying

Is your child a victim of cyber bullying?

With the increase in technology in our children’s lives, we want to inform you of an increased type of bullying. Cyber bullying is defined as “the use of information and communication technologies such as email, cell phones, text messages, instant messaging and personal websites to support hostile behavior by one individual with the intent to harm others.” If your child makes reference to being bullied by any of these methods, please know that we consider this no different than harassment in person. Please encourage your student to contact a staff member at school to report this type of contact. If your child is not comfortable with reporting to an APS staff member, please let them know that Safe2Tell is an anonymous hotline where they can report bullying outside of the school site. The toll free number for Safe2Tell is 1.877.542.safe. One of our goals is to provide a safe and secure learning environment for every APS student. We believe this shared information will help achieve this goal.

Weapons

BB GUNS – NOT ON SCHOOL GROUNDS!!

Several local stores as well as the Internet are selling a new type of plastic BB gun called, “Air Soft.” This BB gun looks and fires like a semi-automatic handgun. It comes with a magazine that holds up to 20 BBs and fires a 6-mm projectile at 300 feet per second. This toy weapon is capable of causing personal injury and/or property damage.

This BB gun can come with a bright orange tip, which can be easily removed or covered with a dark marker making it look like an assault weapon. Many police officers have commented that it’s difficult for them to distinguish between these BB guns and a real handgun. Please help us keep our schools safe by ensuring that your child does not bring toy weapons to school.

Please emphasize to your child that any BB gun falls under the 'Safe Schools' definition of a “dangerous weapon” and should never be brought onto school grounds for any reason.

POSSESSING A BB GUN ON SCHOOL GROUNDS IS A VIOLATION OF STATE LAW AND DISTRICT POLICY AND MAY RESULT IN AN EXPULSION FROM SCHOOL FOR UP TO 12 MONTHS.

Also, please remind your children that they should contact an adult, such as you or their teacher, if they believe that another student may have a weapon, toy or real, at school.
